DERMAL FILLERS

As we age, we lose collagen and bone density and the fat pads on our faces drop; the result is usually a sunken or sagging appearance of the face leading to fine lines and wrinkles, jowls, facial folds, and thin lips.

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a clear, gooey, slippery substance that our bodies produce naturally. Scientists have found HA throughout the body, especially in eyes, joints, and skin. It has been replicated in laboratory conditions to be used to rehydrate and revolumise the tissues in our bodies – most helpfully for aesthetics, the face. HA fillers have no risk of allergic reaction and are temporary, lasting up to 18 months depending on the area treated and individual factors, and effects of the HA injections are seen immediately. They can be injected into the skin through a fine needle or blunt cannula to restore lost volume, smooth wrinkles and fine lines and add volume into the skin. HA fillers attract water, which helps to restore volume, and recreate lost structure. They can stimulate collagen production, which also leads to fresher-looking skin, and revitalise and add volume to the skin, reducing the overall sunken or sagging appearance of the face, and softening the overall look of fine lines and wrinkles.

Hyaluronic acid has gained a reputation for being safe, effective and a good alternative to surgery and there are a variety of HA dermal fillers available. There is little or no downtime and no recovery time is needed. It is important that you are aware of the type and brand used in any treatment so that you can be confident you will get the best result. At Injectably, Cat uses several ranges of evidence based, high-quality HA dermal fillers where the characteristics of the filler vary in strength and stretch so that they integrate optimally with the tissues they are intended to match, whether it is to enhance a particular feature such as the lips or to restore volume, contour, profile balance, or fill in lines or deep folds.

At Injectably, we provide a range of dermal filler treatments tailored to individual needs and this includes:

Lip enhancement: Dermal fillers specifically designed for the lips come in a variety of densities, to achieve subtle natural looking lip or a fuller plumped result. At Injectably, we provide natural looking results working with you throughout the treatment to achieve your goals.

Tear trough treatment, using dermal fillers specially designed for the delicate eye area, instantly revives, and rejuvenates the under eyes, adding volume and decreasing indentations for long lasting and instant results that minimise hollows, dark circles, and fine lines under the eyes and as a result will reduce the appearance of tiredness, and old age. With the tear trough treatment, the under eye can appear to be brighter, firmer and plumped, helping you look and feel refreshed and youthful. Cat’s choice of filler for this area is Teosyal Puresense Redensity II, a lightweight gel, ideal to fill in the delicate skin under the eye, providing support without rigidity, so that emotions and facial expressions are not negatively affected. The filler is also acknowledged to attract very little water unlike other hyaluronic gels, resulting in minimal swelling after injecting and ensures a soft authentic finish and long-lasting results.

Cheek augmentation provides volume to the area around the cheekbones. Dermal fillers are used to create that instant ‘plumping’ effect, restoring the apple of the cheek where necessary, and giving definition to the natural cheekbone structure, recreating the youthful contours of the face. The treatment is tailored to your individual face shape, needs and goals and once injected, the filler enhances the cheek size, definition, and shape also providing a subtle lift to jowls, marionette, and nose to mouth lines.

Nasolabial folds (smile lines) and marionette lines and down turned smile are often the first areas that a person see as unfairly aging in their reflection; they are incredibly common vertical lines that extend from the sides of the nose to the mouth and from the corners of the mouth to the chin. As we age, the corners of the mouth can drop downwards giving a constantly sad appearance. These lines develop with age, due to natural changes in structure, and other lifestyle factors, such as sudden loss in weight or sun damage but dermal filler can be injected into these areas giving strength to this sagging area leading to immediate rejuvenation.

Adaptable Refresh Technique (ART) uses dermal filler placed at several strategic points throughout the face depending on individual need to achieve a natural improvement with only a minimal amount of dermal filler. Typically, this builds on cheek rejuvenation and then addresses moderate volume loss in several areas of the face such as the naso-labial folds, the jaw line, down turned mouth.

Consultation

Before you come for your appointment, I will speak to you on the phone or over a video call to go through the process and I will send you a health questionnaire and information about the treatment by email which you will need to fill and sign and submit so that they return to me. After a thorough medical history is checked, I will explain again what happens during the treatment now that we are together. Once we are both satisfied that you fully understand the treatment and aftercare, I will ensure that you have signed a consent form and I will take photos for your medical notes.

What to Expect

I have put these general pre-treatment instructions together to keep in mind before treatments to get the best from your treatment:
Do not consume alcoholic beverages at least 24 hours prior to treatment (alcohol may increase the risk of bruising).
Please don’t use retinols and other active medical grade treatments for 5 days either side of treatments with Cat without checking with her.
Avoid anti-inflammatory/blood thinning medications for a period of 3-5 days before treatment. Medications and supplements such as aspirin, vitamin E, ginkgo biloba, ginseng, garlic, feverfew, St. John’s Wort, Omega 3/Fish Oil supplements, Ibuprofen and other NSAIDS have a blood thinning effect and can increase the risk of bruising and swelling after injections.
Schedule your Dermal Filler appointment at least 2 weeks prior to a special event which you may be attending such as a wedding or vacation particularly as temporary bruising and/or swelling may occur and need that time to settle.
Reschedule your appointment if you have a cold sore, blemish, or rash, on your face. If you have a history of cold sores, obtain a prescription from me for antiviral medication such as acyclovir 400mgs twice a day. This medication should be used 1-2 days prior to and 5-7 days after your treatment in line with ACE guidance.
If other aesthetic treatments are planned, they should be performed prior to the Dermal Filler treatment.
Be sure to have a good breakfast, including food and drink, before your procedure. This will decrease the chances of light-headedness during your treatment.
Make sure you mention all your current medical and aesthetic treatments and any recent illnesses even if they are under control.

Am I Suitable

Please don’t book treatment within two weeks or travel abroad in case you need to be seen in clinic.
If you know you are allergic to Hyalase or even bee stings, please discuss with Cat.
Fillers get dissolved naturally in the body as the body can break the filler down and results of the treatment gradually fade but breakdown is more rapid during periods of extreme exercise or weight loss so please discuss this with Cat. Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients, hypersensitivity reaction to gram-positive bacterial proteins and lidocaine, infection, and bleeding disorder.

Common Side Effects

The treated area can feel tender so paracetamol can help in the days afterwards but any unexpected pain or changes to skin colour need to be reported to Cat for attention immediately and they may need face to face assessment in clinic. Following the treatment, depending on the area treated, there can be swelling, redness at the injection site and some may experience slight bruising. For many there are no visible marks, and any redness and bruising will subside within a week or two. It is fine to use cold pack or take arnica tablets and cream, eat fresh pineapple, or use LED light to speed up the resolution of any bruising. . Cat may assess you for a prescription medicine for bruising is needed.

Aftercare & Treatment FAQ's

Treat the skin gently by washing it with a gentle cleanser, cool water, and using only your hands to pat dry no earlier than 4 hours after treatment.
1. Avoid the sun after treatment: Stay out of the sun and it goes without saying to avoid the sunbed or the solarium. As a rule, you should reach for AlumierMD Clear Shield or Sheer Hydration whenever you are exposed to the sun or wherever the light is bright enough to cast a shadow, but especially for the first 2 weeks after treatment, to protect your healing skin from sun damage during the recovery process.
Always use a mechanical/mineral sun screen SPF40 such as AlumierMD Clear Shield or Sheer Hydration. Do not apply chemical sunscreen the same day as treatment. Only use approved physical defence sunscreen.
